For Tom Lowe, surfing has always been a passion. Charging into the ice cold Cornish waters, he couldn’t have cared less who saw him surf — he just wanted to be in the water. With a little help from his friend and photographer, Mickey Smith, Tom went from working odd jobs in between surf sessions to earning a living while being on his board. Not afraid to go after the biggest waves, Tom paid the price to play, suffering a near-fatal wipe in 2023 at Teahupo’o in Tahiti, leaving him with a pair of punctured lungs, six broken ribs and a broken shoulder. One of those injuries alone would make most people hesitant for a return, but not Tom. Just six months after the accident, he’s chomping at the bit to be back on his board, prepping for the following big-wave surf season. That’s some true dedication to the sport if you ask us.
