For Marina Gibson, fishing is a family trait. Inspired by her mother’s passion for the sport, Marina spent most of her formative years on the water. In her early twenties, fishing became her escape from the fast pace of London and ultimately led to her decision to turn her passion into her profession.
In 2019, Marina founded the Northern Fishing School with the goal of introducing fishing to as many people as possible in an affordable and inclusive way. She also is a co-founder of the Cancer and Pisces Trust, a charity focused on improving the lives of those with cancer through the therapeutic use of fishing. Marina’s charitable efforts don’t stop there. She’s also an advocate for wild Atlantic salmon and works closely with the Atlantic Salmon Trust and River Action UK to combat water pollution and ensure the UK’s rivers are hospitable for the species. In 2024, Marina and her husband, Stephan, celebrated their first season as owners of Bywell, a historic fishing beat along the River Tyne, adding yet another title to her already lengthy list of accolades. She’s also a certified single and double handed fly fishers international casting instructor, guide, published author, and the mom to two incredibly sweet pups.
